by the name of mitt romney vote -- they said that bill clinton's plan would hurt the economy and kill jobs. does that sound familiar? that's what they said. it turns out their math was just as bad back then as it is now. because -- because by the end of bill clinton's second term, america had created 23 million new jobs and a incomes were up and poverty was down, and our deficit had turned into a surplus. so wisconsin, we know what ideas work. we know our ideas work. and we know that their ideas don't work. we know it. and the reason we know it is we just tried it a few years ago. after bill clinton was out of office, they tried their ideas. we tried giving big tax cuts to the wealthiest americans. we tried giving insurance companies and wall street a free rein to do whatever they play. what we got is falling incomes, record deficits, slowest job growth in 50 years and an economic crisis that we're still cleaning our way out of. so -- so we know what works and we know what doesn't. and governor romney now is a very talented salesman. so in this campaign, he is trying as hard as he can to r

wag going to launch his campaign. we knew this was going to be a big moment with bill clinton rolling out the big guns, if you like, and that was all canceled rather suddenly just as we woke up. so it was really strange knowing he was flying back to cope with a crisis while the rally went on and the normal things you hear at these rallies, the political campaign was going on. and the storm was mentioned by bill clinton but really not heavily. only in passing. and i think people are obviously talking about it to a certain extent. it's not in the front of their minds. what it does politically, conventional campaigning has ceased. it takes the two candidates off the media. i don't think people will be interested in them anyway. the normal style of campaigning has stopped. i don't mean politics has stopped. i think this is an important political moment. but the normal stuff of campaigning is over for a few days at least. >> bridgette kendall in cleveland, ohio. ohio only on the edge of hurricane sandy but right at the center of america's political storm. what do they think the impact on m

. and then president obama and bill clinton will wrap up the day of campaigning in bristow, virginia. but first, this is this week's radio addresses. president obama talking about the countries response to hurricane sandy. then mitt romney talking about the upcoming election. >> this weekend, millions of our fellow americans are still picking up the pieces from one of the worst storms in our history. i toured new jersey on wednesday with governor christie, and witnessed some of the terrible devastation firsthand. it's heartbreaking. families have lost loved ones. entire communities have been wiped away. even some of the first responders who repeatedly put themselves in harm's way to bravely save the lives of others have suffered losses of their own. today, i ask everyone to keep them in your prayers. and as president, i promise them this -- your country will be there for you for as long as it takes to recover and rebuild. throughout the week, i've been in constant contact with governors and mayors in the affected areas, who are doing an excellent job in extraordinarily difficult circumstances.
